Cevin Bryerman is the CEO and publisher of Publishers Weekly, the international news platform of the book publishing industry. He has been at Publishers Weekly, which celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2022, for more than 35 years, and prior to that in the magazine publishing industry working at the helm of both trade and consumer magazines in strategic planning, business development, and strategic partnerships. Bryerman has an astute sense of possibility in working with colleagues around the world. Under his leadership, Publishers Weekly has expanded internationally with partnerships ranging from publishers in Canada to the UAE to India, Hong Kong and China. Publishers Weekly is published in an Arabic edition and in Korean. He kindled the magazine’s digital explosion; the website alone expanded more than tenfold to 13.6 million unique visitors per year. Social media followers number north of 1.26 million. Notable initiatives launched under Bryerman’s watch include the U.S. Book Show, a book fair that ran virtually in 2021 – 2022, as a hybrid event in 2023 and again as a one-day in-person event for professionals on May 22, 2024. The 2024 program is presented by Publishers Weekly and the American Association of Literary Agents and held at the NYU Kimmel Center. A livestreamed conference for publishing professionals, “Artificial Intelligence: Revolution and Opportunity in Trade Publishing,” took place in September 2023. The New York Rights Fair was a joint effort with BookExpo. In addition to the PW Show Daily for conferences including BookExpo, the New York Rights Fair and the U.S. Book Show, he launched international show daily publications with the London Book Fair, Bologna Children’s Book Fair, Frankfurt International Book Fair and Guadalajara International Book Fair. He forged partnerships stateside for publications with the Miami Book Fair and the Texas Book Festival. In 2015 and 2016, Bryerman led the U.S. Publishing Mission to Cuba, a first for the industry, to attend the Havana International Book Fair and a two-day conference for U.S. and Cuban publishing executives, authors and translators. Bryerman grew up in Jericho, Long Island, and earned his Bachelor of Science degree in accounting and finance at the State University of New York at Binghamton, home to one of the country’s top schools of management. Prior to his tenure at Publishers Weekly, Bryerman led Broadcasting and Cable, Library Journal, School Library Journal, Variety, Modern Bride and American Baby. Bryerman is an active board member of PubWest and the Independent Book Publishers Association (IBPA). Other honors include serving on the advisory boards of Simon Fraser University, New York University’s School of Professional Studies Center for Publishing and Pace University. He was awarded honorable mention as Sales Executive of the Year from min (now Folio) in 2013. As a former member of the board of directors of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Bryerman was active in the Books for a Better Life fundraising event. A sought-after speaker, Bryerman has lectured and given seminars at the IBPA University, University of Michigan, Northwestern School of Journalism, Pace University (as visiting professor in 2013 – 2014), NYU School of Professional Studies Center for Publishing, BookExpo, Association des éditeurs de langue anglaise du Québec/Association of English-language Publishers of Quebec (AELAQ) and others. As a leader within the publishing industry, his innate talent, he believes, is working directly with the people affecting the industry, including publishers, booksellers and librarians. Bryerman is a consummate traveler and very happy to be traveling again. On behalf of Publishers Weekly and the publishing industry, he visits book fairs and publishing in-spots around the world, voyaging abroad on a regular basis. In his free time, he is devoted to his family, children and grandchildren and is an avid tennis player and cyclist. He lives near Melville, Long Island.
